game on

me and a couple of the guys went to game on in the ambassador and it was great, in a nut shell the expo showcasing the changes in modern video games and how they have grown from simple games such as pong and space wars to games such as the new grand theft auto and everything in between. all in all the experience was great and for only 10 euro the price was exceptionally reasonable, its running through october so i urge everyone to go and have a look before it finishes.

first blog

Within this blog over the next couple of months I intend to convey my feelings about particular game types and genres, highlighting what attracts me to a particular game style while also explaining what deters me from others.

In my opinion the most important features of a game are as follows:

the storyline and plot of the game:
by this i mean that the games plot is well taught out with good character development over the span of the game. The addition of a well made storyline can make games which look bad a lot more appealing to a gamer. Such notable games through history are the final fantasy series ( although not the more recent additions) this series was known world wide for having a fantastic in-depth storyline which allowed people to overlook the games sometimes more annoying features like limited graphics or badly designed A.I. , another more recent example can be seen in the mmo market as world of warcraft still reigns king of the genre even though other games look and feel better guild wars, age of conan, star trek online etc. The overall feel of the games storyline attracts people to the game while the same storyline and in-depth lore behind the game makes the overall experience a much more entertaining experience.

the visuals and audio:
many players base there opinions of games on how the game looks and how the environment surrounding the game reacts to the players input. the addition of cutscenes at different stages of a games progression means the player feels a sense of reward as in most cases a cutscene is used by game developers to highlight a particular moment that is crucial to the games progression. Similarly to the addition of graphics and visuals the addition of well made audio makes dull monotonous games have a much better flair to them as it has the ability to add suspense, excitement, sadness or joy to given moments with a game once more adding to the players overall immersion into the game which they are playing.

Controls
the way in which a person controls their character can ultimately make or break a game when it comes to playability. No one wants to play a real time strategy game using wii remote as the approach is overly complicated and the usability makes players feel out of sync with the flow of the game.

In my opinion taking the features that interest me in games the overall genre which attracts me is the role playing genre, the overall reason for this is that the majority of these games are well made with extremely detailed game environments and captivating story lines.
